Team Memories

Best memory: up at 4:30 am to get on the water and off again before the Lincoln Park Boat Club took the lagoon!

Lisa Franchetti ‘85

It’s hard to believe, but in the very early days of rowing in the Lincoln Park lagoon (and once out in Lake Michigan - not a good idea) we would head to spring regattas with no boats and no oars. We would go around to the other teams to see who had boats we could use - and they always came through! It was a testament to the broader spirit of the rowing community.

The teamwork and adversity of Crew builds friendships that last a lifetime! Wonderful to still be in touch forty years later - marriages, kids, careers….and the amazing arcs of our lives!

Wall sits!

Weight lifting in the basement of Patten Gym, across from Elder Hall. That place seemed like such a dungeon!

Courtney Loynachan ‘13

Spring Break camp outside of Charleston! The conditions were less than ideal, the food terrible, but we had the best time laughing and bonding together after a long winter of erging.

Nick Broady ‘15

Rowing a double for the first time at HOTC... That and my crazy southern uncle coming and trying to help us carry the boat at the hooch!

Abi Watt ‘15

Showing up to Camp Bob for spring training in 2013 to the men having no hot water in the showers and the women being housed in little tent-cabins 10 minutes walk away!

Nick Broady spending the entire fall season cutting to make lightweight for Head of the Hooch, showing up to weigh in with a giant piece of pumpkin pie in a bag, and scarfing the pie the minute weigh in was done

Getting stranded at a Panera in Rockford until 11pm after Head of the Rock 2014, the year our truck or trailer was broken and we had to trailer with someone else, who promised he'd be back "in a couple of hours" to pick our boats up and didn't return for 8 hours

Rowing in Zhengzhou, China in 2018 was a complete fever dream!

Chiara Kim ‘25

Some of my favorite memories from the team are watching reality TV together on spring break, crossing the finish line at ACRA after months of hard work, playing road trip games in the vans, and joking around between pieces on the Skokie.

Lizzie Dozois ‘25

ACRA was always my favorite regatta, all four years were very memorable in all sorts of ways! I obviously loved racing itself side by side with other fast crews, but I also loved seeing other boats on our team race as well, and living all together that week!
